Permits & Construction Timeline FAQ

Permits and timelines are among the most common concerns for homeowners embarking on a construction or remodeling project. Here's what to expect.

How long does it take to get a building permit in Roanoke County?

Roanoke County typically processes residential building permits in 2–4 weeks for standard projects. Complex projects, those requiring Board of Zoning Appeals review, or projects in special overlay districts can take longer. We submit permits early and factor review time into our project schedules.

Who pulls the permits — me or the contractor?

Baron Enterprises pulls all required permits as the licensed general contractor on your project. This protects you by ensuring all work is properly inspected and recorded. Never allow a contractor to ask you to pull permits in your own name — it shifts liability to you.

What inspections are required during construction?

Depending on the project, inspections may include foundation, framing, rough electrical, rough plumbing, rough mechanical (HVAC), insulation, and final inspections. We schedule and manage all inspections, and you'll receive a copy of every inspection report. We don't close up walls until rough inspections are approved.

What causes construction delays and how do you handle them?

The most common causes of delays are weather, material lead times, subcontractor scheduling, and unexpected site conditions (especially in renovation of older homes). We address delays by communicating immediately, adjusting the schedule, and keeping parallel work moving. We provide a written project schedule at contract signing and update you proactively.

Can you give me a guaranteed completion date?

Construction projects involve too many variables — weather, material supply chains, inspections — for an absolute guarantee, and any contractor who offers one should be viewed with skepticism. What we commit to: a realistic timeline, transparent communication about changes, and accountability when delays occur.
